Who we are. EasyRead is operated by ByteSmith, a sole proprietorship registered in Poland (NIP 5621807782) — the data controller. Contact: [email protected].

What we collect and why

  • A photo of your child and the details you enter (child's first name, age band, interests, chosen story) — used solely to generate a personalized comic.
  • Your email and payment details — to deliver the comic and process the order.

Legal basis

We process your child's photo and details on the basis of your consent (GDPR Art 6(1)(a)), which you give as the child's parent or legal guardian (Art 8). We process your own account/order data to perform our contract with you (Art 6(1)(b)) and to meet legal obligations such as tax records (Art 6(1)(c)).

What we do NOT do

We do not perform facial recognition, biometric identification, or face-matching. We do not use your child's photo to train AI models, and we do not use it for advertising.

Companies that help us (sub-processors)

  • Google (Gemini AI, USA) — generates the comic illustration from the photo. Paid tier; inputs are not used to train Google's models. Transfer safeguard: EU-US Data Privacy Framework + Standard Contractual Clauses.
  • Amazon Web Services (S3, Frankfurt, EU) — securely stores the photo. Stays in the EU.
  • Hetzner (Germany, EU) — hosts our database and servers. Stays in the EU.
  • Stripe (USA/EU) — processes payments (independent controller for payment data). DPF + SCCs.
  • Resend (USA) — sends order emails. DPF + SCCs.

How long we keep it

We delete the uploaded photo automatically after your comic is made — by default within 30 days, and no later than 90 days. Finished comics remain available while you have access to them. We keep invoice/tax records for the period required by Polish law (typically 5 years) — without the photo.

Your rights

You can access, correct, delete, restrict or port your data, object to processing, and withdraw consent at any time (which stops processing and deletes the photo). Email [email protected]. You may also complain to the Polish supervisory authority, UODO (uodo.gov.pl).

AI-generated content

The illustrations are generated by AI from your photo and are stylized (not photographs). They are labelled as AI-generated.
